The customer is a prominent manufacturing company based in North America that produces fitness equipment for both commercial and residential markets. As a fast-growing organization, they work closely with distributors, retailers, and commercial clients, handling large volumes of product, customer, and service data across multiple business segments. Their operations rely on seamless coordination between internal teams and external partners, supported by several integrated business systems.
The customer was operating an on-premises CRM system supported by multiple legacy applications and integrations. These systems played a key role in enabling collaboration between internal teams, external partners, and customer service operations. Over time, the organization had developed several custom applications and processes, making the CRM central to their daily operations.
As the business expanded, the customer needed to move to a modern cloud-based platform that could offer scalability while maintaining existing integrations and custom functionality.
VNB initiated the project with a comprehensive discovery phase, during which they formulated an extensive migration plan and developed detailed technical designs for custom components that could not be migrated directly. Subsequently, VNB carried out the on-premises CRM migration to D365 by constructing essential business application elements such as canvas apps, web resources, workflows, cloud-based business rules, custom plugins, and more.
Data migration was conducted in alignment with business requirements, distinguishing records between commercial and non-commercial operations. The approach featured meticulous migration of substantial datasets—including annotations (notes), activity logs, and file attachments—with validation executed at a granular level. Both the VNB Business Applications and Data Migration teams ensured complete data migration to the cloud, with careful preservation of critical metadata like unique identifiers, record ownership, and audit fields such as Created By and Created On. To facilitate this process, VNB developed an advanced migration toolkit utilizing SQL for staging, Power Automate flows for data transfer, and custom plugins, thereby providing a robust and efficient transition of approximately 4TB of data from on-premises systems to D365.
Legacy partner data import and export procedures were modernized, enabling partners to upload files directly into the new platform and allowing for the generation of exportable CSV files for external purposes. The customer service platform was integrated with Dynamics 365 Online using Canvas Apps and Power Automate, replacing legacy web components and improving user experience.
Additionally, the team revamped the previous BizTalk-based integration, implementing a contemporary Azure Logic Apps solution to ensure seamless connectivity between Dynamics 365 Online and the customer's SAP-based ERP system.
